Donald Trump demands immediate cancellation of Netanyahu's trial

United States President Donald Trump has called for the cancellation of the corruption trial of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which he described as an unacceptable "witch hunt" against Israel's "hero."

"Such a witch hunt against a man who has given so much is unthinkable to me. He deserves much better than this and so does the State of Israel itself. The trial of Bibi Netanyahu must be CANCELLED IMMEDIATELY," Trump wrote on his Truth Social network.

If this does not happen, Trump stressed that a "pardon should be granted to a great hero who has done so much for his country."

According to him, “It was the United States of America that saved Israel, and now it will be the United States of America again that will save Bibi Netanyahu.”

Netanyahu's much-hyped trial began in May 2020, but has been postponed several times due to the war in the Gaza Strip and recent developments in Lebanon. The Israeli prime minister faces charges of fraud, abuse of power and bribery.

He is suspected of having granted favors to the telecommunications company Bezeq while he held the post of Minister of Communications, as well as having accepted luxurious gifts from his billionaire friends.

In a lengthy post on Truth Social, Trump expressed shock that “the state of Israel, which just experienced one of the greatest moments in its history under the leadership of Bibi Netanyahu, is continuing this ridiculous trial of its Prime Minister.”

He says he has been through "hell" with Netanyahu in confronting Iran, which he describes as "a fierce and eternal enemy of Israel." Trump calls Netanyahu a "warrior more than any other in the history of Israel," adding that together they were "fighting for the survival of Israel."

Ironically mocking the charges against Netanyahu, Trump mentioned that the trial is about "cigars, Bugs Bunny toys and other unfair charges intended to cause him great harm."

He also recalls that this is the first time in history that a sitting Israeli prime minister has faced such a trial, which he calls "a political horror show that has been going on since May 2020."

Trump ends the post by calling "this so-called madness of justice" unacceptable, while raising the cooperation he had with Netanyahu during his presidency.

"There is perhaps no one who has worked better with the president of the United States, me, than Bibi Netanyahu. It is time for America to save it again," Trump concludes.
