Second strike in 2 days/ 40 people injured by a drone attack in Israel

Israeli rescue services said around 40 people were injured Sunday in a drone strike in the central town of Binyamina. Three of the injured appear in critical condition. The Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah claimed responsibility for one of the deadliest attacks on Israel in a year of war.

Israeli media reported that two drones had been launched from Lebanon, and the military announced that one of them had been intercepted. It remains unclear whether among the wounded there are members of the army or civilians and what was specifically hit.

Hezbollah said in a statement it had targeted an Israeli military camp used for training in retaliation for two Israeli attacks on Beirut on Thursday that killed 22 people.

This was the second time in two days that a drone struck inside Israel. On Saturday, during the Yom Kippur holiday, a drone struck the outskirts of Tel Aviv, causing property damage but no deaths or injuries.

The latest attack comes on the same day that the United States announced it will send an advanced air defense system to Israel to help bolster its defenses against missiles.

Israel is already at war with Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon – both Iranian-backed militant groups.

The Jewish state is expected to strike Iran in retaliation for a ballistic missile attack earlier this month, but it remains unclear when that might happen. Iran has said that it will respond to any Israeli attack./VOA
