The nuclear power plant in Ukraine is attacked again, the UN meets urgently: Avoid the disaster!

The nuclear power plant in Ukraine is attacked again, the UN meets urgently:

Attacks continue around Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, as the parties again blame each other for the attack.

Each side said there were 10 new attacks around Europe's largest nuclear power plant. At a UN Security Council meeting called to discuss the situation, António Guterres said it could "lead to catastrophe".

China and the US both demanded that UN experts be allowed to visit the factory urgently, but similar requests in the past have so far not been followed through.

Earlier, the US also called for the creation of a demilitarized zone around the plant: "War near a nuclear power plant is dangerous and irresponsible," a State Department spokesman said.

However, Russia's UN representative said demilitarization was not an option, suggesting it would make the plant more vulnerable to "provocations" and "terrorist attacks".

Ukraine says Russia has turned the country into a military base, launching attacks from there knowing Ukrainian forces are unlikely to retaliate.
