Pope Francis at Easter Vigil: The Light of the Resurrection Illuminates Our Path

During the Easter Vigil in St. Peter's Basilica, Pope Francis' homily was read by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, who also presided over the liturgy on behalf of the Holy Father. The Pope, who continues to limit public engagements due to health, emphasized that "the light of the Resurrection illuminates our path, step by step", breaking the darkness of history and bringing enlightenment to our hearts.

Before the start of the ceremony, Pope Francis made a brief visit to St. Peter's Basilica, where he stayed briefly in prayer and greeted the faithful who had come for the Easter Vigil. The solemn liturgy began about two hours later and gathered over five thousand believers, both inside the Basilica and in the square outside it.

In his homily, Pope Francis underlined that the light of the Resurrection requires "the response of a humble faith, without any triumphalism." He compared the Resurrection to "the little seeds of light that slowly and silently take root in our hearts, sometimes still prey to darkness and unbelief."

This important liturgical moment was held in an atmosphere of reflection and hope, strengthening faith and spiritual unity among Catholic believers around the world.
