Storm "Hans" hits Nordic countries, causes floods and landslides

Torrential rain caused flooding and landslides in Sweden and Norway today, while strong winds in Denmark are making it impossible to control a forest fire, local authorities said.

Storm "Hans" has been hitting the Nordic countries since the weekend. Residents of Are, a popular ski resort in northwest Sweden, were told to avoid the Susabakken stream, which overflowed and damaged roads and homes, said Krisinformation, a website that informs the public about crisis situations.

On Monday, two carriages of a train derailed in eastern Sweden, injuring three people. The accident occurred due to the erosion of an embankment by floods.

In Norway, the police spoke of several landslides during the day. Local media reported that around 100 people had to be evacuated from their homes.

The meteorological services of Sweden and Norway have issued flood warnings in many areas. The bad weather is also making traffic difficult, with many roads closed and train and ferry services cancelled.
