Was massacred in Hamas, the father of the 22-year-old German, chilling details

For the families of the victims of the Hamas attack, the painful wait for the identification of the bodies of their loved ones is not over. Voice of America correspondent Natasha Mozgovaya visited the family of the victim Shani Louk. They received confirmation of the girl's death this week.

22-year-old Shani Louk became a symbol of Hamas' cruelty.

She is one of 260 people killed by Hamas militants who attacked a music festival in southern Israel on October 7.

Shania's father, Nissim Louk, says her family spotted the tattoos on an unconscious woman's body on top of a truck full of armed men.

"My daughter, Shani, is a beautiful girl, and most people saw her in a terrible moment. They had thrown him on a truck and were taking him to Gaza. And since then, we certainly had no clue as to where her body was. But we received full confirmation that she is dead and that she was shot in the place where the party was taking place ", says her father.

Nissim Louk says the family didn't know Shania had gone to the music festival that day.

"I was sure she would be in Tel Aviv, in her apartment. So we called to tell him to come into the shelter, as we knew he slept a lot in the morning. We wanted to tell him to take shelter because there were rockets falling everywhere. Then he answered us: "We are at the party in the south, near Gaza, and we are going to Tel Aviv because it is a mess here," he says.

Although they saw the video that the family thought was their daughter, they kept hope alive after receiving a message from an activist in Gaza that Shania was in a hospital.

This week, the family received confirmation of her death from a forensic team that examined part of her skull.

"It is very difficult to know that our beloved daughter was killed and that we will probably never see her body again. But, on the other hand, it is a relief, since we know that he died and did not suffer much. And that it is not found in the underground tunnels of Hamas" , says her father.

At the Israeli base where the team of forensic experts works, the bodies of the victims continue to arrive, many of them mutilated and difficult to identify.

"We have seen signs of abuse. We saw bodies with severed heads. We saw bodies that had their limbs cut off. We saw bodies being handcuffed. We saw bodies that were burned. I think that's enough to say that these are not what you normally see at a crime scene ," says Dr. Michael Levin Elad, head of the Institute of Forensic Medicine, Israel National Police.

At the Louk family home, relatives of other victims, such as the father of a reservist killed in Kfar Aza, come to console them.

Nissim Louk says that Israel wants peace, but that Hamas must pay for what it did.

Meanwhile, Ms. Elad says the forensic team's main mission is to help families, like the Louk family, learn what happened to their loved ones./voa
