Vučić and Dodik 'threaten' a military alliance with Hungary

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has raised the tone of cooperation with Hungary, signaling the possible creation of a military pact between the two countries. Following this stance, the leader of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, also declared that this entity intends to be included in a security and defense agreement with Serbia and Hungary.

So far, Hungarian authorities have not publicly commented on these warnings, even though Hungary is part of NATO, the most powerful military alliance in the world.

The developments come after the signing of the Military Cooperation Plan for 2025 between the defense ministries of Serbia and Hungary on April 1 in Belgrade. The agreement was signed by Serbian Defense Minister Bratislav Gašić and his Hungarian counterpart, Kristof Szalay-Bobrovniczky.

President Vučić stated that this plan deepens the strategic cooperation launched in 2023 and could lead to the creation of a genuine military alliance between Belgrade and Budapest.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić have built a strong political and strategic alliance over the past few years, transforming Hungary into one of Serbia's biggest supporters within the European Union.

Recent statements from Belgrade and Banja Luka have caused concerns in the region, raising questions about the impact that such a military alliance could have on security and stability in the Western Balkans.
