8 Egyptian and Algerian refugees were being trafficked, 2 Syrians were arrested

The Border Police have arrested two Syrian citizens, who are accused of committing the criminal activity of providing assistance for illegal border crossing, in return for payment.

As part of the operation codenamed "Valley 1", citizens Tarek Abid Eshaq, 26 years old, and Barud Hajali Ali, 25 years old, were arrested, who are charged with the criminal offense of "Aid for illegal border crossing", committed in collaboration.

Police report that they were caught overnight in the village of Kapshticë in Devoll, accompanying 8 Egyptian and Algerian citizens (4 of them minors). According to authorities, the two Syrians were helping immigrants from Third Countries to illegally cross the green border with Greece, with the aim of crossing into Montenegro and then into EU countries.

"Investigations suspect that these citizens, in collaboration with other Syrian citizens, help immigrants from Third Countries, in return for payment, to cross illegally into Albania, through the land border with Greece. Investigations are ongoing to fully document this criminal activity, identify and capture other citizens involved," the Police statement said.

The procedural materials have been passed to the Korça Prosecutor's Office for further action.
