A 23-year-old Albanian man has been arrested by the Albanian police in the city of Fier, after three years on the run, pursuant to a European arrest warrant issued by the Italian authorities. The young man was declared internationally wanted for a serious incident that took place in August 2021 in the city of Genoa, Italy.

According to investigations conducted by the Italian police, when he was 20 years old, he is accused of sexually harassing a 75-year-old Italian woman on a public bus and then following her to her apartment, where he physically and sexually abused her. The incident shocked Italian public opinion due to its violence and brutality.

The perpetrator was identified immediately after the attack and the Genoa Court of Appeal had sentenced him to six years in prison for the criminal offences of "sexual violence", "aggravated theft" and "personal injury". However, the young man had managed to escape and avoid serving his sentence.

After a period of investigations and cooperation between the Albanian and Italian authorities, it became possible to locate him in Fier and arrest him by the Albanian police. Procedures have already begun for his extradition to Italy, where he will face justice and serve his sentence for the crimes committed.
