Tabaku: The story of Marseille is the story of the middle class being dismantled

The Democratic Party's candidate for deputy in Tirana, Jorida Tabaku, brought to attention the story of Marsela – a lawyer and notary who represents thousands of honest middle-class professionals who struggle every day with an unjust economic system.

In a video published on social media, Tabaku emphasized that, although the Constitutional Court overturned the law on the taxation of freelancers, Marsela and many others continue to pay unfair taxes and duties.

They are left with 2 or 3 clients per month and their income is not even enough to make ends meet.

"The story of Marsela is the story of many honest professionals who start their day early and finish late, but who fail to secure a dignified future for their families. It is the story of the middle class in Albania – the backbone of the economy, which today has been forgotten," Tabaku continued.

She vowed that this situation will change and that the Democratic Party has a clear plan to free freelance professionals from fiscal injustices and place the middle class at the center of economic policies.

Marsela's story is the story of many lawyers and freelance professionals in Albania who face impossible economic challenges every day and a system that does not support them, but punishes them.

With two diplomas and studies completed in Italy, Marsela returned to Albania to build her future. She opened a small notary office in Tirana, hoping that through honest work she could provide a better life for herself and her two daughters. But facing the Albanian reality was harsh.

High fees, heavy taxes, and obligations to professional orders made it impossible for Marsela to survive financially. She, like many others, faced a market laden with unfair competition and cases that dragged on for years in the courts, with no guarantee of a result.

Even after the Constitutional Court's decision that declared the tax law for liberal professions invalid, nothing has changed for Marsela and many of her colleagues. The little income she secures from 2 or 3 clients a month continues to be eroded by an abusive tax regime and a system that refuses to listen.
