Beyond the horizon, life goes on! Black Friday and Easter

Black Friday and Easter are, in the Christian sense, events of universal importance to people. Together, they can provide hope as a Christian holiday.

The major church holidays are centered around the life of Jesus Christ. Without a doubt: the most beloved holiday of Germans is Christmas, the celebration of the birth of Christ. This is a joyful event. Gifts are distributed and the holy atmosphere of Christmas evokes many emotions. As important as the birth of Jesus, that is, the return of God to man, is, even more important are Black Friday and Easter. Good Friday, or Black Friday, is the day when the suffering and death of Christ are remembered, Easter is the celebration of his Resurrection from the dead.

Both holidays, however, have a preparatory phase. The so-called "week of mourning" begins on the Sunday preceding and is the most important week in the church calendar. For this reason, on the day of Jesus' death, Black Friday, mourning and repentance are at the center of the commemoration.

The connection of death and resurrection

Previously, Black Friday was the greatest holiday of evangelical Christians. Meanwhile, all Christian denominations have agreed that the day that marks the death of Christ for the sins of people is an inseparable part of Easter, that is, the day of Resurrection. The greatest holiday of Christianity consists of Black Friday, Black Saturday and Easter Sunday, and these are now seen as one.

Intrigue, slander, trial

What happened on the first Black Friday in history began the evening before. Jesus had eaten dinner with his 12 closest advisors – the last time they heard the words of the master together. Shortly after this, betrayal and imprisonment followed.

On Black Friday, Christ had to endure two trials – one by the Jewish leaders, who wanted to exclude Jesus on theological grounds, and one by the Roman rulers. The struggle to the death of the accused often lasted for several days.

The New Testament of the Bible reports that at the time of Jesus' death the sun darkened, the earth shook, and other inexplicable events occurred. Jesus experienced the ultimate consequence of being human, even to the point of brutal death.

The end is just a transition

What we call Easter today, however, became a day of surprise for the followers of Jesus. On the morning of the third day after the crucifixion, the tomb where they laid the dead Jesus was empty. Witnesses encountered the resurrected one. Only the physical encounter with him, who had risen from the dead, convinced the early Christians that he really lives.

Perspective to date

For Christians, Black Friday and the events of Easter are connected to the idea of hope. Easter opens up for Christians a dimension that transcends life and death on earth.
