33-year-old Albanian dies in Greek detention

A serious incident occurred this morning at the detention facilities of the Police Directorate in Chania, Greece, where a young Albanian man was found dead by local authorities.

According to the official announcement of the Greek police, “a foreign prisoner was found unconscious on the floor in the detention facility.” Immediately, police officers provided first aid, while the EKAB emergency service was also notified. Unfortunately, despite efforts to bring him back to life, the 33-year-old died on the spot.

Greek media reports that the victim is a 33-year-old Albanian citizen who was arrested two days earlier, on April 15, for violating the law on narcotics. He was in detention cells awaiting administrative deportation proceedings from Greece.

Greek authorities have launched investigations to determine the causes of death, while forensic expertise is awaited to determine whether we are dealing with a health problem, overdose, or other circumstances.

The event has also caused concern among public opinion, while police authorities in Chania are expected to publish more information in the coming days.
