The Trump administration has decided today to close  the Global Engagement Center (GEC), an office housed in the State Department that conservatives say funded an unconstitutional "censorship scheme."

In the context of the global climate of censorship and disinformation, a year ago the Albanian government also rushed to establish the Special Parliamentary Commission with a focus on coordinating and overseeing institutional efforts to combat disinformation and other forms of foreign interference in democratic processes in Albania.

Prime Minister Edi Rama and his supporters described the commission as "very important to move forward at full speed."

On the other hand, Bledi Çuçi, a member of the commission, considered it a mechanism for domestic political purposes, referring to the similar office in the US.

"This is not a mechanism for our internal political goals, so we must be together here. The establishment of this committee is necessary. It will conduct a complete analysis of the situation. I am convinced that you will join this committee," Çuçi declared at the meeting of the Conference of Speakers.
