It seems that the arrest of Erion Veliaj has shaken the foundations of the Socialist Party, so much so that Prime Minister Edi Rama has decided to run for office in Tirana for the May 11 elections.

Concluding his speech at the event organized by the Municipality of Tirana for the 105th anniversary of the capital, Rama announced that he would join the "blue team", in an apparent attempt to salvage the tense situation within the party.

"I also have to be here in Tirana with the team after what happened yesterday and there is no question that on May 11th Tirana will give Albania the biggest number it has ever given. We will do everything we can," declared Rama,
