Rama promises from Luxembourg, with the "independent" justice, he will fight corruption
Albania opened today the first chapter of negotiations with the European Union. In a press conference with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjarto and Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi, Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke about the so-called "access to justice".
From Luxembourg, Rama stated that today Albania has an accountable and transparent system, which, according to him, has investigated, judged and punished high-profile officials.
Rama promised, just like in the electoral campaigns, that he will fight corruption at every level, when in fact it is his government that has received international attention for the major level of corruption.
"It is not a pro-European rhetoric, it is a matter of life and death for our dream to leave to generations a country where freedom is indisputable and where democracy works for everyone. Albania has fulfilled all the prerequisites to start this membership phase and remains steadfast in fulfilling the conditions. Achievements in justice reform, a more accountable system. In our history we are seeing high-profile investigations and political figures being accused or convicted before independent courts regardless of party.
We will do this by fighting corruption at every level to guarantee the safety of citizens and to deserve our place in the EU. No matter how much this progress deepens, we will do so while preserving and protecting human rights. We have implemented a fairly progressive framework based on European standards. Our will will be supplemented by bylaws. We will build on the excellent work with a great team of negotiators and we will strengthen this administration in the service of the future" , said Rama.
