Police incident with journalist, Gjekmarkaj: An act that requires reflection.

The Commission of Education and Public Media dealt with the incident of two days ago, where a police officer pushed down the journalist Anila Hoxha, who was performing her duty at the place where the businessman Ruzhdi Hoxha was found dead.

The chairman of the commission, Agron Gjekmarkaj, condemned the behavior shown towards the journalist and an cameraman, calling it a serious incident. He stressed that even in the customary code, the news is not affected. Gjekmarkaj added that police officers are the ones who should protect journalists.

"Let us condemn this grave event. We also have in the customary code, that the news is always in trust and should always be guaranteed. It is a sad moment, when exactly in his attempt to convey the truth and convey the news to the society, in the line of duty, the journalist is attacked exactly by those who were supposed to be the defenders of the journalists, in this case, a policeman. "Without right or left colors, we agree that it was an ugly act, an act that should be condemned" , said Gjekmarkaj.

The latter called on the Minister of Interior and the Director General of Police to reflect from such events that endanger the lives of journalists. He stressed that the leaders of these institutions should review the police force.

"It is an act that requires a reflection on what the police force is in Albania. The Director General of Police, the Minister of Interior, should review their body, what they have recruited in these years, because for the sake of truth, in 30 years of freedom the police have often fought their battles, but have often risen even against the civic morality with unwanted participants that there have been and still are, who have been recruited outside any professional and human criteria " , added Gjekmarkaj.

He also demanded that justice be done to anyone who violates journalists in the line of duty.

"It would take a lot for the police to be professional, at the height of their duties and above all correct with the journalists, who in these years have made not small battles to sensitize the society for abuses of power but in relation to the truth and the news. I believe you all agree that such an act should not be repeated and above all such acts should be punished by justice more by justice than by the public opinion which has an ethical attitude " , said Agron Gjekmarkaj.
