The law on medical students returns to the parliamentary committee, DP: No obligation for 3 years of work in Albania

The law on medical students returns to the parliamentary committee, DP: No

The Constitutional Court partially rejected the law that forced young doctors to work for three years in Albania after graduation.

The PD parliamentary group has continued the process to review it once again in the committees before it is voted on in the Assembly. The position of this group is clear: students who graduate in medicine must freely choose the place where they want to practice their profession.

The Chairperson of the Legislation Council, Dhurata Çupi, announced today at the next meeting that the 3-year period will be zeroed out for newly graduated doctors as well.

"Immediately after the clarification of the decision of the Constitutional Court for medical students, in the capacity of the president of the Council of Legislation, I requested a meeting of the Council in order to take measures for the implementation of this decision.

Today, the Council for Legislation has decided that the review of the draft law will be immediately passed to the parliamentary committee on Laws and then to the plenary session for voting.

While the majority continues to insist that the period after studies during which young doctors are obliged to work in Albania should be 3 years, the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party proposes that this period be zero and newly graduated doctors can freely choose where they want to work. practice their profession.

If the government sincerely wants young doctors to live and work in Albania, this will not be done with austerity measures and penalties, but by significantly improving their working conditions and financial treatment", writes Çupi.
