The leader of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, has sent a voice message to his supporters from prison. In this message, Meta describes the May 11 elections as the decisive moment for the overthrow of the "presidentialism" and the restoration of functional democracy in the country.

Meta emphasized that the Freedom Party has entered this race not to secure individual mandates, but to guarantee a major victory for the opposition, aiming for a historic result, especially in Tirana.

According to him, the 2008 constitutional changes, imposed by Prime Minister Edi Rama, have severely damaged parliamentarism and accountability, so the coalition's main objective is to eliminate closed lists and return power to the citizens.

"The Freedom Party has not entered this coalition to obtain a few mandates, but to ensure an undisputed victory. We aim for over 50 thousand votes in Tirana, to guarantee the victory of the opposition and the return of democracy," Meta said in his message.

He also praised the support of the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, for open lists, describing this as a vital step to restore to citizens the right to elect their true representatives in the Assembly.

At the end of the message, Meta called for general mobilization, describing May 11 as a referendum against closed lists and against the current regime. He stressed that Albanians must commit to bringing about real political change, overthrowing the system that, according to him, has severely damaged democracy in the country.
