Democratic Party MP, Jorida Tabaku, has reacted to the arrest of Tirana Mayor, Erion Veliaj, by SPAK, describing it as a blow to a corrupt scheme that has been in place for years.

Invited to an interview with "News24", Tabaku stated that this development had long been expected by citizens, considering the accusations against Veliaj regarding the incinerator issue and other corruption schemes.

" It is news that citizens have been waiting for a long time, knowing the criminal scheme that has operated in the Municipality of Tirana, which has been reflected in the incinerators, in the 5D case. Veliaj's arrest is the dismantling of the corrupt system. Veliaj has many sins, for the capture of the media, in the death of Ardit Gjoklaj. It was a beautiful day when Veliaj went to SPAK. It was a good day when Veliaj was imprisoned. It is not that I am happy that Veliaj went to prison, but we should fear the law. Veliaj is not in prison for the affairs he is accused of, neither for 5D, nor for the incinerators. Erion Veliaj has been involved in many affairs. In the protest there were people who are paid, who have received bonuses from the municipality, because perhaps their source of income has ended. Judges were attacked and the police did not protect the people of justice ", said Tabaku.

Further, Tabaku stated that SPAK also has professional and capable prosecutors.

" There are prosecutors with integrity in SPAK, but there are also people in SPAK who do not have enough integrity. For the Veliaj case, SPAK has the maximum congratulations. Yesterday in parliament we were not allowed to speak. The majority protects everyone, until they become defenseless. The DP has denounced the affairs in time. I am sorry that Klotilda Bushka is involved in such a scheme. Politics must have a moral standard. Anyone who has corrupt affairs must go to justice. The corrupt system is the main reason why Albania is where it is ," she said.
