June 13 elections, former PD MP: Unequal internal race, Basha has declared himself mayor
After two days, Democratic Party members will go to the polls to elect the new party leader.
However, the race where Lulzim Basha Edith Harxhi, Agron Shehaj and Fatbardh Kadilli are running, many of whom have described it as unequal.
Former PD MP, Lajla Përnaska is one of them.
"I appreciate the fact that a contest was organized, despite the fact that the candidates in this contest have endless disputes about the rules of the contest, but that I and in my political conception, I have always accepted the contest even when it was unequal." she told Euronews Albania.
But despite the controversy and criticism of the process, Pernaska said the Democratic Party needed to run an internal race, especially after losing the election.
"This is a necessary race for the status of the Democratic Party. It has come out of a heavy blow, from the loss of the April 25 elections and this blow from the result, makes even more necessary the race for the change of leadership in PD, the responsibility of losing an election race, whatever it is, falls on the mayor and the DP leadership. I call it unequal as a race, because it did not have such a fine act of democracy that is the resignation of the president and this is one of the elements that affects the race " , she added.
Përnaska stressed that the current leader of the Democratic Party has declared himself the winner, from the moment he refused to resign and enter the race without any "privilege".
" He [Lulzim Basha] has declared himself a winner, because he did not take those minimal steps to organize, according to the responsibility he has in that position, an open competition and clear rules for everyone. "He considers himself privileged, who refused to submit to these rules and to come to a stage of equality with other candidates ", she said.
According to her, the Democratic Party must undergo a deep process of renewal and return as a credible alternative for Albanians.
