DerSpiegel "sinks" Rama and remembers Berisha's call: You march

The bombshell investigation of the German magazine DerSpiegel, about the Rama government and its leader, also stopped at the frequent statements of the head of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, who stated that "Albania is a kind of dictatorship, the first and only drug state in Europe".

"Is Rama pouring his country's silver in exchange for political goodwill?", this is one of the questions raised in the article, while the focus is on the former senior FBI agent, now convicted. Charles McGonigal.

Also, in the article, the fact that the chief democrat Berisha is under house arrest and gives voice to his call Berisha: "You march blindfolded towards a catastrophe" is not left unmentioned.

Excerpt from the article:

Is Rama pouring his country's silver in exchange for political goodwill? The former senior FBI agent, now convicted, Charles McGonigal, admitted that he had received bribes in Albania for services in the interest of the government. He also accepted several meetings with Edi Rama in the government building. The prime minister denies wrongdoing.

"McGonigal was paid by people from Rama's office," says Sali Berisha, Albania's first president in free elections in 1992 and co-founder of the Democratic Party.

Berisha is under house arrest. He is also accused of corruption, the USA has banned his entry. For more than 200 days, the former head of state is not allowed to leave his home.

"I still remember the Hoxha dictatorship well - even then it was not as centralist as it is now under Rama," says the nearly eighty-year-old, who wears a yellow tie and silver cufflinks with his white shirt: Albania is a kind of dictatorship, the first and only drug state in Europe".

Berisha takes out his tablet and shows data proving that Edi Rama's brother, Olsi, is also involved in drug trafficking. Olsi Rama denied the accusations. Berisha, however, insists on his claim that the West is blind to the true conditions in Albania: "You are marching blindfolded towards a catastrophe."

Small, seen from Berisha's balcony on the eighth floor, the people down on Mustafa Matohiti street in Tirana look small. Every evening at eight o'clock they march here, his supporters - to celebrate their hero under house arrest.
