Gladis Nano "goes" to the Security Commission, Çuçi tells if there is a conflict with the US for his dismissal

Gladis Nano "goes" to the Security Commission, Çuçi

The meeting of the Security Commission was accompanied by debates today. The return of the controversies about the dismissal of Gladis Nanos has brought "clashes" between the MPs of the opposition and the majority, as well as the Minister of the Interior Bledi Çuçi himself.

First, it was the democratic deputy Ferdinand Xhaferraj who asked for clarification from Çuçi about the reasons that led to the dismissal of Nano from the post of the General Director of the State Police, as well as whether or not there is a clash between the government and the USA on the matter.

The Minister of the Interior stated that this matter is not of public interest and that there is no conflict with the USA, apart from the appreciation they have expressed for Nano when he was leading Anti-Terrorism.

Excerpts from the debate:

Ferdinand Xhaferraj: Since September 13, we have requested, 1/3 of the deputies have requested the urgent presence of the Minister of the Interior regarding the order situation and the dismissal of Gladis Nano. We requested this urgent session because on the same day, our strategic ally, the US, Ambassador Yuri Kim, in a status clarified that Gladis Nano was a strong partner of the US with many contributions and decorated with achievements. The situation is very worrying. If it was not the interests of the strategic ally, whose interests fired the director? We have obligations to leave politics to serve national interests.

Xhemal Qefalia: Today we are to discuss the budget. Let's continue with the agenda that serves the available time.

Bledi Çuçi: The dismissal and appointment of the General Director is administrative and every procedure is done according to the relevant law. The second is related to our partnership with the USA. I guarantee you and I am convinced that you also know very well that there is no conflict with our strategic partner. They thanked the former director and dedicated to the part when he was director of Antiterror and had closer ties in that position. There is no collision, no correspondence even about this, so there is nothing occult because every cause must have an effect if there is to be an occult situation surrounding these movements. It is a matter of no importance for public opinion. I came for the cyber attack.

Salianji: We asked for a procedure because neither the minister nor you define who the public interest is. The state of criminality deeply worries the public, we have not said why one leader leaves and another leader comes. Now what about consensuality? The concern cannot be defined by you and the debate should not continue for this reason. We are concerned about what we have requested in writing. We are here to demand accountability for other issues that the government has and the minister to come and speak.

Minister Çuçi: Today we start the discussion on the 2023 budget for the Ministry of the Interior and I want to say that we are in an abnormal situation caused by Putin's war in Ukraine which has brought destabilization without exception to European economies, with inflation not only in Europe and consequently Albania cannot remain unaffected by the effects of this war. One attention in this budget, even for sectors that cover the UK, was also related to the inflation of the war.
