You win the elections like Edi Rama - but justice won't allow you in

The municipal council elections in the Swiss city of Vernier have caused a stir online in recent days, as the results have not been announced and allegations of electoral fraud have been raised.

According to foreign media reports,  the court in the canton of Geneva in Switzerland decided to annul the elections, after irregularities were found that distorted the voting results. The experts' findings confirmed that nine people had filled out 278 ballots.

"Such fraud does not allow the result of March 23 to reflect the sincere and accurate will of the voters," the court said.

Similar cases of manipulation were also recorded in our country in the parliamentary elections of May 11. The Socialist Party managed to secure over 80 mandates, a result that caused debates and controversy among political parties.

After the end of the electoral process, the opposition accused the majority of using a phenomenon considered the "Bulgarian train" during the elections, which also included video denunciations.

The process of reopening the ballot boxes and verifying the votes revealed problems, where in 15 cases, the ballots had only one stamp, while they should have had two. Also, more ballots were found in the boxes than the voter turnout, with one or two more votes.

Additionally, unused ballots were found in the election materials box, fewer than those recorded in the minutes, and a number of other issues.

But unlike Switzerland, in our country, even though manipulation and vote-rigging have been found, there has been no reaction from the competent institutions. No results have been annulled so far.

Such a case once again calls into question the role and function of justice institutions in our country, which are constantly criticized for being captured by the government.
