Vote recount in Tirana, Kaso: We did not have the 14th mandate as our objective

The Secretary for Legal and Electoral Affairs at the Democratic Party, Ivi Kaso, declares that with the recount of votes in the capital, the DP is not aiming to obtain a 14th mandate in Tirana.

Invited to Euronews Albania, he said that the request for the re-evaluation and recount of votes was not made for this reason, but if candidates within the DP claim that they can achieve their mandate, according to him, they have the legitimate right to think so.

"The request was not from the Democratic Party for the recount and re-evaluation of votes with the objective of obtaining another mandate. Even more so if the difference is calculated to be over 1,000 votes. It was never the intention of the DP to initiate a process that would lead us towards obtaining a mandate."

"It was the request of some candidates, who were not legitimized, and it was our commitment that what the candidates could not do themselves, we provided as support. Now if in the 18 thousand invalid votes that the Tirana District had, Belind Këlliçi or Mr. Alimehmeti hoped to receive their 14th mandate, they are within their legitimate right ," Kaso said.
