Diseases of the circulatory system and heart disease are the leading cause of death in Albania during 2024.
The annual report of INSTAT publishes the figures and results that among them, chronic heart problems lead, followed by ischemia and cerebrovascular diseases.
The second cause is unspecified symptoms and diseases, found mainly in women and accounting for 21.5% of total deaths. Within this group, deaths from old age account for 70.7%.
Tumor diseases cause more deaths in men and are the third cause of fatalities, accounting for 15.3% of the total, with digestive system tumors leading the way.
INSTAT reports that 97% of deaths occurred as a result of natural causes, 1.9% as a result of accidents, 0.2% from homicides and 0.9% as a result of suicides.
