Kume: Vote recount increases credibility

Former CEC head Kristaq Kume has described the ballot box recount process as a positive step towards increasing transparency and electoral integrity.

"As long as everyone knows what will result from the review of election materials and the recount of ballots, it primarily serves to increase transparency in the electoral process and consequently the result that comes from this should only be welcomed as such," Kume told Ora News.

" We have had and continue to have as one of the main problems that has accompanied the electoral processes developed, their transparency, transparency on various issues, among which this one we are talking about has been a constant concern. This was the reason why even in the Electoral Code we have foreseen that at the end of an electoral process, that is, when the final election result is announced by the CEC, around 10% of the ballot boxes are subject to recounting, re-evaluation of the result.

"Of course, what is foreseen in the Electoral Code has no effect on the result, but it does increase the quality of transparency and credibility of the process, as well as bringing to justice those who can and are proven to have abused the opportunities given to them while performing the duties of administrator of the electoral process and tellers , " said Kume.
