Former prosecutor: Criminal groups are more structured in Albania

Former prosecutor Besnik Muçi spoke about the role of crime in national security.

Invited to News 24, he stated that criminal groups now interact with each other and are more structured, taking on mafia-like nuances.

"In Albania, if we speak in the narrow sense of the word, there are criminal groups that operate in certain territories, Shkodër, Elbasan, Fier, Durrës, Tirana, Vlorë, etc., but in our territory they interact with each other. There is no map of criminal groups, but there are strong and stabilized groups.

"But recently they have gone from criminal groups to more structured groups, taking on the nuance of a mafia, as Italy's anti-corruption and anti-mafia structure said in the joint meeting they had with SPAK a short time ago ," Muçi told News24.
