Special Court leaves Veliaj in prison, SPAK presents new evidence

The Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime has left in force the security measure of "prison arrest" for the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.

The court has also confirmed the "house arrest" security measure for businessman and close friend of Veliaj, Elman Abule.

The defense lawyers requested a change in security measures, proposing to replace them with milder measures, and offered financial guarantees, but the GJKKO decided not to accept the requests.

The prosecution has presented as a new argument the fact that the apartment located above Veliaj's residence is indirectly owned by the Xoxa-Veliaj couple, which raises suspicions of undeclared or hidden assets.

According to SPAK, based on the investigations conducted and the charges filed, there are no conditions for changing the security measure.
