It was refuted by the USA, the EU and Britain, how did Basha change his position on the agreement with SP on the Electoral Reform
Yesterday, Lulzim Basha thanked the three embassies in the country, the EU and the United Kingdom, implying that he has negotiated with them to reactivate the work on the Electoral Reform, at the same time that he is chosen by the foreign factor among the democratic groups.
"In cooperation with the international factor, whose representatives I would like to thank, we managed to take a modest first step regarding the main priority of removing political irresponsibility from the political scene through Electoral Reform.
And at least for the moment it seems that in cooperation with Albania's strategic allies, the Democratic Party as the leader of this process in the essential sense of the word has managed to convince the other party to start work on the bipartisan Electoral Reform Commission.
I believe the details will be made public very soon, but I want to thank the United States of America, the European Union, Great Britain for helping not only the opposition, the Democratic Party in this regard, but also an extraordinary public interest, which is the destruction of scenarios to once again drag out the Electoral Reform process.
We will see when the commission will meet, but we insist that the work of the commission be public ", said Basha.
However, it did not last long and this statement was immediately dismissed by the diplomatic headquarters in Tirana.
EU : In response to the reports circulating in the media, we would like to clarify that while the EU is not involved in any mediation, our position remains the same: we continue to emphasize the need to follow the recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR. As we have said before, including the 2023 Report for Albania, the electoral reform requires constructive and comprehensive political dialogue of all parties'.
USA : Meetings are not part of any mediation. Our interest remains in effective and representative governance to implement the ODIHR recommendations and we welcome the ideas of all responsible parties to this end.
United Kingdom: While we have not brokered any political agreement, we continue to encourage mutually respectful and constructive dialogue in good faith between those who wish to represent the Albanian people. This is in the national interest and also crucial for the trust of international partners and foreign investments, to build a better future for all Albanians.
After these reactions, Basha reacted again through spokespersons, accusing the media of misinformation, but also correcting himself.
" The Democratic Party rejects allusions and disinformation regarding the attitude of the Chairman of the Democratic Party, Mr. Lulzim Basha made by Balkanëb, Neës 24 and "Panorama" newspaper.
Mr. Lulzim Basha a day ago thanked the international partners for their cooperation in resuming the Electoral Reform work.
Misinformation is done simply and only for the interests of a group that does not want Electoral Reform.
Basha in X replaces the term mediation with support: the Democratic Party once again thanks our partners the USA, EU, Great Britain and OSCE ODHIR for supporting the Electoral Reform as the interest of Albanian citizens and the opportunity to grant free and fair elections honest", says the reaction.
"On behalf of the Democratic Party of Albania, I repeat my gratitude for the support that Albania's strategic partners, the USA, the EU and the UK, as well as the OSCE-ODIHR, give to the electoral reform process in Albania. Thanks to this support, after a long period of silence, the Electoral Reform Commission is expected to start work soon. Open lists, vote equality, diaspora vote and electronic voting and counting are the priorities of the Democratic Party embodied in the package of legal proposals deposited in the Albanian Parliament.
