The Greek media " Kathimerini " has again dealt with the case of Fredi Beleri, after the decision of the Special Court of Appeal in Tirana, which left him in prison.

The article states that the Special Court of Appeal in Tirana once again rejected the request for Fredi Beleri's release from prison and his right to exercise the office of mayor.

" Beleri has been arrested since May on the charge that he is suspected of having bought votes, after he was elected mayor of the municipality of Himara with a Reke ethnic majority," the newspaper writes.

After the announcement of the decision on Monday, the president of European Lawyers Without Borders, Patrick Henry, and the president of the Plenary of the Bar Associations of Greece, Dimitris Vervesos, held a press conference.

Patrick Henry noted that with the decision to deny Beler's release, the Albanian courts violated Articles 5 and 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

He added that there is no reason for Fredi Beleri to leave the country, while at the same time safe measures can be taken to prevent his escape.

He considered the prison disproportionate to Beler's crime, as there are over 30 people accused of electoral offenses who are not being held in custody.
