Albanian criminal gangs are being considered an “acute” threat to the United Kingdom, playing a key role in organised crime and violent acts in Britain. According to a document leaked by the Home Office, these criminal groups are involved in drug trafficking, murder and other illegal activities, working closely with the Italian mafia, which controls the continental cocaine trade.

A recent investigation has shed light on the violent methods of these gangs, including the murder of 29-year-old Rhys Thompson, who was found dead near Rishworth, West Yorkshire, in May 2021. The victim had suffered a brutal attack with nine blows to the head and clear signs of torture.

The murder of Rhys Thompson and suspicions of links to Albanian gangsters

Thompson's body was discovered with signs of extreme violence, including broken arms and legs, and numerous bruises. He was found with tape wrapped around his neck and wrists, but according to Home Office pathologist Dr. Michael Parsons, there is no evidence that he was strangled with this tape, raising doubts about the method of torture.

Eight men were arrested and later released during the investigation into this serious incident, while reports suggest that the crime may be linked to Albanian criminal groups.

This new data adds to concerns about the danger posed by Albanian gangs in the UK, highlighting their spread into large criminal networks and the violent acts that are shaking the country.
