One less Muslim mouth to feed": How the staff of 'Bibby

The BBC has disclosed new details from the death of the Albanian immigrant, Leonard Farruku, 27 years old, on the ship Bibby Stockholm.

The details were given by the cleaner who was on the ship at the time when Farruku passed away. Levana has confessed that the ship's workers, docked in Portland, Dorset, mocked Farruk's death, saying: "one less Muslim mouth to feed".

She said the joke was "disgusting", within a week of Farruk's death.

"I was beginning to think: why put these people who have these views and prejudices in charge of caring for hundreds of men who have come here for safe haven?" , she said.

Levana said she did not feel able to report the incident.

The parliamentary meeting was held to launch a report by groups campaigning against the barge, including Care4Calais, Stand Up To Racism and the Portland Global Friendship Group.

According to the document, Levana was disciplined and then "unjustly destroyed" after talking to the residents.

She said: "I was told I was being given a verbal warning because I shouldn't be friendly to service users in this way. After that I also worked a booked shift and then I wasn't offered any more work."

Meanwhile, the Home Office in Britain has said that it does not recognize these claims made in the investigation report.

"We do not recognize the claims made in this report. Bibby Stockholm is part of the government's plan to reduce the use of expensive hotels. There are rigorous security processes on the barge. Residents have access to health and social care services, including mental health support ," their statement said.

The 27-year-old Albanian, Leonard Farruku, passed away in December 2023 without knowing that he had earned the right to work in England, which was granted to him by the Home Office. The young Albanian had arrived in England a year ago and was staying in an asylum in Bibby Stockholm.

He had paid smugglers €4,000 to get to Britain illegally on a small boat across the Channel in August 2022. He had subsequently sought asylum and his claim was being actively considered by the Home Office at the time of his death on December 12 last year.
