Expected to be extradited to Albania, the Italian court releases Davide

Davide Pecoreli, the Italian who was reported to have been killed in Puka and then appeared alive in Italy after 8 months has been released two days after his arrest.

Although the Italian businessman is wanted by the Albanian authorities and was expected to be extradited to Albania, for staging his death in January 2021 to escape debts, local media write that the Court of Appeal, at the request of the Attorney General, Sergio Sottani released the 47-year-old from prison.

The businessman is accused by Albanian justice bodies of fraud, false statements, desecration of graves, obstruction of justice, damage, fire and illegal crossing of the border.

In January 2021, Pecorelli, to escape financial debts in Italy, set fire to a rented car in the village of Rras, Albania, in which human remains were found, to stage his death.

He was later found alive on September 17, 2021 on the island of Montecristo in Italy.
