Joe Biden's proposal: An Albanian US ambassador to Montenegro

American President Joe Biden has appointed an Albanian originating from North Macedonia as US ambassador to Montenegro.

Begzat Aliu, also known as B. Bix Aliu, has served as deputy ambassador to Podgorica and as deputy head of the US mission in Poland. Ali has been the Temporary Charge d'Affaires at the American Embassy in Budapest, Hungary.

In the announcement to the White House, it is emphasized that"B. Bix Aliu is a career member of the High Foreign Service, minister-counselor class. He was the Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Poland and Chargé d'Affaires, ad interim throughout 2021. Previously, Ali was Consul General of the U.S. Consulate General in Krakow and was decorated with the Medal Honoris Gratia, the city's highest honor, for his significant advancement of economic and cultural ties between the United States and Krakow. Ali has a Medical Degree from the University of Pristina, Kosovo and a Master's Degree in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Ali is a recipient of multiple State Department performance awards and speaks Montenegrin, Polish, Serbo-Croatian, Macedonian, and Albanian."

Ali's appointment as US ambassador to Montenegro comes at a time when the country is on the verge of establishing a new government, after the departure of Dritan Abazovic.
