Deaths have marked a slight increase in the second quarter of the year, while births have continued with the downward trend, according to the latest INSTAT data.
However, the natural population increase for the second quarter of 2024 is positive, registering 255 more births than deaths.
The number of births for the second quarter of 2024 is 5,269, marking a decrease of 3.4%, compared to the second quarter of 2023, according to INSTAT data.
The number of deaths for the second quarter of 2024 is 5,014, marking an increase of 1.3%, compared to the second quarter of 2023.
Four regions of the country register a positive natural increase of the population, while in the other eight regions, the natural increase of the population is negative.
The county with the highest natural increase is Tirana, with 741 more births than deaths, while the county with the lowest natural increase is Korça, with 187 more deaths than births.

In the second quarter of 2024, two regions of the country recorded an increase in the number of births, while ten other regions recorded a decrease, compared to the second quarter of 2023.
The district with the highest number of births is Tirana with 2,013 births, while the district with the lowest number is Gjirokastra with 70 births.
The largest increase in the percentage of births, during the second quarter of 2024, compared to the second quarter of 2023, is the district of Berat with 3.2%, while the largest decrease is the district of Gjirokastra with 18.6%.
