Journalists' associations send decision to close TikTok to Constitutional

Journalists' associations AGSH and BIRN have filed a request with the Constitutional Court to overturn the government's decision to shut down TikTok. The associations say the decision violates the Constitution and the Human Rights Convention.

"We cannot go to full censorship and closure of social networks. This violates the freedom of expression and the rights of Albanian citizens. We are confident that the members of the Constitutional Court will not legitimize it because this will create a precedent that could lead to the closure of other social networks, or the closure of the internet by this government or other governments that will come after," said Isa Myzyraj, head of the Albanian Journalists Association.

On March 6, the Albanian government announced the decision to close TikTok for a 12-month period. According to the government, the decision was reached after a survey conducted with parents,
