Widely regarded as one of the best Italian footballers of all time, Rossi won the Golden Shoe at the 1982 World Cup in Spain, as the top scorer, and the Golden Ball for the tournament player, and in the same year, Ballon d'Or European Footballer of the Year for his performances.

During his time as a member of the Italian football club Juventus FC, Rossi won two Serie A titles, a European Cup and a Coppa Italia in his four years with the club. Rossi has also played for AC Milan. After his football career, Rossi worked as an expert for RAI.

"Such sad news: Paolo Rossi has left us. Unforgettable Pablito, who made us all fall in love that summer of 1982 and who was a valued and competent colleague working at RAI for the last few years." was said in the RAI announcement. Rossi is the second known World Cup winner to die in two weeks, following the death of Argentine national hero Diego Maradona in November.

Career:

Born in Prato in 1956, he started playing football at an early age until in 1972 he found himself among the youngsters of the Juventus team.

At first the Juve team did not trust Rossi, so in October 1975 he moved to Como and then to Vicenza.

His talent explodes in this team. 21 goals in 36 games affect this team to climb to the First Category.

In 1981 Juventus manages to pull him into its clutches.

In the world, with his 6 goals he becomes the best scorer.

He was without question the star of the World Cup held in Spain.

He managed to score for the Blues in the most important matches, three goals against Brazil, two goals against Poland in the semifinals and one goal against RF Germany in the final.

After finishing his career as a footballer he became an excellent commentator for Rai, Sky and Mediaset.
