Toni Kroos announces retirement from football after Euro 2024

Legendary German midfielder Toni Kroos will retire at the end of Euro 2024, his club Real Madrid has confirmed.

Kroos, 34, began his career in Bayern Munich's youth team before joining Real Madrid and playing a key role in their success over the past decade.

Kroos has helped Madrid win four La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues, as well as playing a key role when Germany won the World Cup in 2014.

However, he will now retire from the sport entirely at the end of Euro 2024.

"July 17, 2014 - the day of my presentation at Real Madrid, the day that changed my life ," Kroos said on Instagram.

"My life as a footballer -- but especially as a person. It was the beginning of a new chapter at the biggest club in the world. After 10 years, at the end of the season, this chapter comes to an end. At the same time this decision means that my career as an active footballer will end this summer after the European Championship.

As I have always said: Real Madrid is and will be my last club. I am happy and proud that in my mind I found the right time for my decision and that I could solve it myself" , Kroos continued.
