German President Frank Walter Steinmeier will make a 4-day trip to North Macedonia and Albania.

Steinmeier will visit Tirana on December 1 and 2. Deutsche Welle reports that the focus of the German president's visit to the two countries of the region is the current situation in the Western Balkans, the effects of the war and Russian aggression in Ukraine, as well as Germany's support for European integration.

The German President will be received on December 1 by his counterpart Bajram Begaj and Prime Minister Edi Rama. Steinmeier will also deliver a speech to Parliament.

On the eve of his visit to these two countries, Steinmeier told DW that the achievements of North Macedonia and Albania "deserve recognition and respect". Among other things, he said that the visit aims to convey the message that we do not forget the Western Balkans.

It is the first time that the German president officially visits Albania and North Macedonia, since he took office on March 19, 2017.
