The incident at Skopje Airport, Kosovo sends a note of protest to North Macedonia
Kosovo sends a note of protest to North Macedonia after yesterday's incident at the Skopje Airport, where airport security tried to take the private phone of President Vjosa Osmani and pushed him away.
The Foreign Minister of Kosovo, Donika Gërvalla, has requested that the Macedonian authorities undertake immediate measures to investigate this case and to ensure that such events do not repeat in the future.
"Minister Gërvalla has submitted a note of protest to the authorities of North Macedonia, demanding an immediate and complete explanation for this incident," the announcement states.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Kosovo emphasizes that President Osmani was confronted with inappropriate and illegal treatment by airport security personnel.
In an effort to clarify the situation, Gërvalla met the ambassador of North Macedonia in Kosovo immediately after the incident and held a meeting with the Macedonian deputy prime minister, Arben Fetai.
During the meeting, they discussed the incident and the need for quick institutional action.
Recently, Gërvalla received a phone call from her Macedonian counterpart, Timço Mucunski, where the concerns of Kosovo's institutions regarding this event were expressed.
The Macedonian side said a day ago that it has started the investigation of this case.
The Ministry of the Interior of North Macedonia stated that after Osmani passed the border control, "a person from the security of the Speaker of the Assembly, Afrim Gashi, [policeman] came with two other people [policemen] and started threatening the airport workers and asking who has caused a problem for the president.
