Blockades are removed, all border crossing points with Serbia are opened

All border crossings between Kosovo and Serbia are opened, after blockades on the Serbian part of the border.

The Minister of Internal Affairs Xelal Sveçla announced that the border points in Merdar and Bërnjak have been opened for traffic after the removal of the blockades by the armed men.

Through a post on Facebook, he has announced that there is no longer any obstacle to traffic at these border points.

"After receiving the announcements that the blockades created by masked extremists that were placed yesterday in the territory of Serbia have already been removed and seeing that there are no obstacles to traffic from and to the border points of the Republic of Kosovo, we made the decision to open for the circulation of border points Merdar and Bërnjak", stated Sveçla.

So, on Friday, the Serbs blocked the roads and turned back only travelers with Kosovo documents in the Serbian part near the three border points between Kosovo and Serbia, in protest against the recent actions of the Kosovo authorities.

The organizers of the blockades want Kosovo to withdraw the police from the Serbian-majority municipalities in the north, allow the use of the Serbian dinar currency, which was banned at the beginning of this year, and allow the parallel Serbian municipalities to work.

On Saturday morning, the deputy director of the Kosovo Police for the northern region, Veton Elshani, said that in Jarinje there are no more obstacles in the circulation of all vehicles on both sides of the border, while there were still doubts about Merdar and Bërnjak.
