Osmani and Hovenier talk about the new elections

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has talked with the American ambassador in Kosovo regarding the consultations for setting the date of regular elections in Kosovo. The year 2025 in Kosovo is a regular election year and according to the Presidency of Kosovo, the meeting discussed "full commitment to guaranteeing a democratic and successful electoral process".

On July 31, Osmani invited all parliamentary parties to consultations on setting the date of the elections. The head of the ruling party, Lévizja Vetëvendosje, Albin Kurti, did not participate in this meeting.

After that meeting, Osmani said that the parties had different proposals for the date of the elections, but no one insisted on one. Some of the dates mentioned are January 26 or February 2, 9 and 16.

Next year 2025 is a regular election year in Kosovo and if the political parties agree that there will be no early elections, the current Government led by Prime Minister Kurti will be the first to fulfill the four-year mandate since the declaration of independence.

Meanwhile, in the meeting held at the Presidency of Kosovo on August 12, according to the announcement, Osmani and Hovenier also talked about the field of security, without giving more details.

"Continuous deepening of bilateral relations and regular coordination on topics of national interest were also part of the discussions in today's meeting", it was said in the announcement.

The discussion on the deepening of bilateral relations comes a few days after the US Department of State encouraged the Government of Kosovo, led by Albin Kurti, to return to "constructive engagement" with Washington, the European Union, NATO and other international partners.

The USA has recently expressed "disappointment" for, as it said, the uncoordinated and unilateral decisions of the authorities in Kosovo, after several branches of the Post of Serbia were closed in early August in the north of Kosovo.

The USA, but also other members of the international community, have also opposed the intention of the Government of Kosovo, to open the bridge over the Ibër river for traffic, which separates the South Mitrovica, inhabited by Albanians, and the North, inhabited by Albanians. Serbian majority./REL
