The Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives opens investigations against Charles McGonigal, the request for the FBI director is revealed

The House Judiciary Committee is investigating former FBI special agent Charles McGonigal, who was charged last week with colluding with a Russian oligarch who tried to evade US sanctions.

Jim Jordan (R-OH), the committee chairman, and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray requesting documents and communications related to McGonigal, such as work history, security clearance evaluations, and other related documents.

The congressmen said they are pursuing the committee's ongoing goal to "investigate allegations of politicization and bias at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

"Just last week, with the indictment of former top FBI official Charles McGonigal, the American people were once again reminded of the seemingly widespread problems within the FBI," the letter said. "We are writing to request material and information regarding McGonigal's misconduct."

The Justice Department indicted McGonigal, a 22-year veteran of the FBI, on Jan. 23 for providing services and receiving money from Oleg V. Deripaska, a Russian oligarch with known ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin. At the time, McGonigal was the special agent in charge of the bureau's counterintelligence division in New York.

Some of the questions include how Russian oligarchs were able to "turn" top FBI officials, as well as examining closed cases that may have been improperly influenced because of McGonigal's relationship with Deripaska.
