Rama asked children to see his photos everywhere, why are the institutions that once 'crucified' Këlliç's poster silent?
Belind Këlliç's message pointing the middle finger at corruption, in a poster displayed while he was running for mayor of Tirana against Erion Veliaj, was met with a multitude of reactions from religious communities, several institutions, and citizens themselves.
They unanimously considered it unacceptable because offensive gestures violate human dignity.
Meanwhile, today, the country's Prime Minister, Edi Rama, in front of children during an electoral meeting, asked them to look at his nude photos on social networks and by searching on Google.
His message has brought harsh reactions from public opinion, but the same institutions that 'crucified' Këlliçi at the time are today silent in the face of such offensive statements, especially from a state official.
Below, we recall the reactions of religious institutions or communities to the Këlliç poster and those who remain silent in the face of Prime Minister Rama's statements.
Reaction from the Alliance against Hate Speech - Ombudsman, Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination, Audiovisual Media Authority and Albanian Media Council
The Alliance Against Hate Speech found inappropriate content in electoral posters placed in various areas of Tirana.
The use of offensive images and gestures in electoral campaigns that violate human dignity are unacceptable and punishable by electoral law.
The Alliance Against Hate Speech appreciates the recent decision of the State Election Commissioner to remove denigrating billboards, urging electoral entities to exercise restraint and be careful in the message they give to the younger generations. Political parties should not give up their educational role and positive role models for society.
The Alliance Against Hate Speech encourages electoral entities to set an example of understanding, dialogue, and presenting better alternatives for the benefit of the communities that will govern after the elections. Responsibility, caring for the good word is the characteristic of community leaders.
The Alliance against Hate Speech notes that the Code of Conduct for Political Parties in Albania signed by electoral entities is based on respect for the equal dignity of all human beings, freedom of expression and thought, democratic dialogue, tolerance and mutual respect, fighting against all alleged forms of superiority of one group over others, as well as discrimination and hate speech.
Reaction from the Psychologist's Order
Ish-myftiu i Tiranës, Ylli Gurra
Therefore, we call on the candidate to acknowledge that his behavior is unacceptable and does not comply with the required level of behavior from candidates in elections. We also call on the CEC to intervene in a timely manner to prevent the negative impact of the candidate's behavior on the image of the city and the integrity of the elections.
Ultimately, elections are an important process and must be fair and impartial to ensure that every citizen's vote is respected and influences the choice of their responsibly elected representatives."
Evangelical Brotherhood of Albania
The Evangelical Brotherhood of Albania points out to candidate Këlliçi that his behavior is unacceptable and not in line with civic ethics.
"Corruption is not fought with banality!
Building civic values includes respecting people by not reducing the debate to banal insults. Our children do not need examples of banality, therefore it cannot be acceptable to normalize banality in the public spaces of our city, especially from someone who wants to be its first citizen.
The candidate of the "Together We Win" coalition has committed an unacceptable act, showing his middle finger in public spaces where family members and children pass by. The Evangelical Brotherhood of Albania points out to its candidate that his behavior is unacceptable and is not in line with civic ethics. We also call on the CEC to intervene in time to prevent the negative impact of the candidate's behavior on the image of the city and the integrity of the elections. In the meantime, we continue to pray for the May 14 electoral process and for all candidates who are running, not to act under the pressure of the campaign, but to be conscientious, where through candidacy they convey values and respectful behavior for the entire family and respect for the citizens of this city/country
