18-year-old Iam Tongi made history on Sunday when he was announced as the winner of "American Idol". The competitor won the most watched talent show in the United States of America, beating Megan Danielle and Colin Stough. He was crowned the winner of the 21st season of the hit show after a nationwide vote during a star-studded three-hour finale on ABC.

He performed "Don't Let Go" by Spawnbreezie, while his family in the audience created a fiery atmosphere. The rising star, meanwhile, was born in Hawaii, but revealed he is originally from Tonga and Samoa. Tongi recently graduated from high school and is only 18 years old.

According to Kauai Now News, after being selected as one of the top three contestants on "American Idol," Tongi visited his hometown on the North Shore and was given an honorary graduation from Kahuku High School, Kahuku. The young artist already has a number of connections in the music industry. During the finale, a number of big acts also took to the stage, including Kylie Minogue, Pitbull, TLC, James Blunt and Clay Aiken.
