On Sunday, the time changes

This weekend, the clocks will go back 60 minutes. As if it is a tradition, the winter time is put into operation on the last Sunday of October, which for this year coincides with the date of October 27.

As usual, the changeover takes place around 03:00 am. On smart phone devices, the switch is done automatically.

The movement of the hands of the clock as a phenomenon occurs twice a year: In the last week of October and on the last Sunday of March, when the clock goes forward.

The aim is to make the best use of solar energy.

The change of time has previously been uneven in Europe, but it began to be generalized from 1974, after the first oil crisis when some countries decided to move the clock forward in order to use more sunlight and consume less electricity.

Do other countries have time difference?

In the Northern Hemisphere, most of Europe and North America observe Daylight Saving Time (DST). Egypt is the only country in Africa that also changes the time during the summer.

Israel, Palestine and Lebanon also observe daylight savings.

In the southern hemisphere, only small parts of South America and Oceania participate.

Not every country observes the same date to change its time. In Australia, for example, the clocks went forward (for its summer) on October 6 this year, and in the US the clocks will go back on November 3.

And all but one country change their clocks by a full hour. Lord Howe Island, off the east coast of Australia, adjusts the time by 30 minutes, putting it in the same time zone as New South Wales during the summer.
