Gwyneth Paltrow and her court battle: The decision is made for the actress
Gwyneth Paltrow has won her legal battle over a 2016 accident at a Utah ski resort after a court found the actress not at fault. Panel members dismissed the claim by retired optometrist, eye doctor Terry Sanderson, 76, and said he was 100% to blame for the incident.
The ruling marks a loss for Sanderson, the man who sued Paltrow for more than $300,000 for injuries he suffered when they collided while skiing. Both blamed each other for the crash. Paltrow sought $1 in damages and attorney's fees, a symbolic move similar to Taylor Swift's defamation suit against a radio host. Swift was awarded $1 in 2017.
Paltrow's defense team tried to portray Sanderson as an angry, elderly and unsympathetic man who over the years became "obsessed" with the lawsuit against her. They argued Paltrow was not at fault for the crash and also said Sanderson was overstating the extent of her injuries. Audiences around the world followed the trial as if it were a TV series.
