Instagram Reels reveals new features

Instagram announced an update to its Reels video feature this morning, along with news that the Supreme Court upheld the law that will ban TikTok in the US from January 19th.

The update, Meta announced, will make it easier for users to discover content that friends and followers are liking on the platform and encourage users to start conversations about Reels content.

It is reported that the feature is starting to be implemented in the US.

The company is poised to capture a number of TikTok users after the US ban, especially creators who rely on social networks for revenue, foreign media write, reports Telegraph.

Although a significant group of TikTok users have already 'migrated' to the Chinese app RedNote in protest of the ban, it will be more difficult for creators to monetize their followers on an app that is used primarily by Chinese netizens, but not by American businesses and brands.

Meta, trying to grab the attention of TikTok users on Friday, announced that it is adding a feature that appears in the top right corner of Reels, making it easier to see content that friends and followers have liked or commented on.

This appears as a small button with profile pictures of those who engaged with the content and a small icon to show what type of interaction they had.

In addition, the company said it will introduce a new 'reply bar' that will allow users to easily respond to content their friends like.
