Greece, 58-year-old woman dies from H1N1 flu

A 58-year-old woman, Ioanna Tzouma, has died from the H1N1 flu in Greece, marking the first fatal case of this type of flu in several years. The incident occurred in the intensive care unit of Volos Hospital, where Tzouma had been hospitalized for days in critical condition.

The deceased, a former employee in the tourism sector, initially showed mild symptoms, such as a low fever, which worsened after a few days. She was rushed to hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with H1N1 influenza infection.

Despite the efforts of medical staff to intubate and treat her, her health deteriorated, leading to multiple organ failure and, unfortunately, loss of life.

Meanwhile, a 70-year-old man admitted to the same hospital with the same diagnosis has managed to recover and overcome the risk, bringing a ray of hope amid growing concerns.

Greek health authorities have urged citizens to get vaccinated against the flu on time to prevent such fatal cases. The event has raised awareness of the importance of preventive measures, especially for vulnerable groups.
