Protests in Serbia, Brnabic: I'm ready to resign!

The Serbian Prime Minister, Ana Bërnabič, said that she is ready to resign.

"I am ready and you can count on my resignation," she said during a public speech together with the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić.

She said that she thinks that holding parliamentary elections until the end of the year is a solution to the crisis and added that the opposition has not responded to the invitation of the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, for a meeting.

In recent months, several protests have been held in Serbia called by a part of the opposition that is dissatisfied with the Government's response to two mass shootings in May that left 18 people dead.

Brnabic said that she has performed her duties in the best possible way and that the results of her executive are indisputable.

"Not everything was perfect, but we did our best and I think we have results that every citizen, if they are honest, can be proud of ," she said.

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said that it is certain that there will be early parliamentary elections and that the only question is when they will be held.

Vucic said that there will be no transitional government.

The President of Serbia once again invited the opposition to talk.

" I believe that we will find an interlocutor. If this does not happen, we will go to the elections, but the Government will not be elected on the streets and there will be no transitional government ," said Vucic.

Otherwise, Bërnabič has received the mandate to lead the new Serbian Government in the middle of 2022.

When the Serbian president, Aleksandar Vučič, announced her mandate at the head of the executive, he said that Bërnabić would not stay in this post for a full term, but there would be changes during 2024. /REL
